On the Farm
This Page will be devoted to what projects
we are working on at the Farm
Right now we are working on restoring our 130+ year old barn
Originally this was a Hay barn w/the cable trolley system through large
double doors on the east side
. Over the years and before we acquired
the property, all the doors disappeared. We've been collecting doors
and used lumber from the same time period for replacement.

We've had trouble finding exterior boards to match so we've been
rebuilding from the inside out as can be seen in the upper level and
the section next to the door. This was
Rod's Idea and an excellent one
as it block the wind and stops the elements from doing more damage
to the interior. For the upper level we are using old fashioned
clapboard, a lapped wood siding. The lower level open sections are
being repaired by tongue and groove siding. Both types of wood have
been reclaimed from torn down houses in the area or farm auctions
for next to nothing. We store most of the wood in the loft of the barn
until we can get to the project(translation; after harvest).
The red door in this
pic was given to us
last summer along
w/both sets of
equipment entrance
size doors for the
front of the barn as
well as the
stable(NW) side.

before out. The door in the front was replaced from a period piece
and opens in. The open double doors are mentioned above.
Below; An Opening in Loft floor for entrance from lower story is made practical.
Billy and Rod use another recycled door on used hinges(also garnered from a farm
sale) to allow continued access while controlling heat released through opening.
